The Art of Carmen Searfoss
Artist's Statement:
I have two passions in life, one is cooking and the other is
painting. Sometimes I'll bring both of my passions together with
paint. I find great beauty, texture and color in fruits and
vegetables, even though I paint other subjects such as toys, flowers,
faces also. I keep coming back to my favorite subject, food.
I love children's toys - the bold primary colors, the geometric shapes -
but most of all, the memories that they evoke in adults. The
paintings bring them back to their childhood to those carefree happy
moments.

Artist's Statement:
"Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned every one to his own way;

The most important human and historic event occurred about 2000 years ago, when Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected. Because of the chastisement that he suffered, we enjoy a beautiful peace in which we can create art. More importantly, we receive new life in Him here, and eternal life in Him after this life.
My art is but a small imitation of the Master Artist's work. My interest is in capturing human faces - particularly everyday people in settings that wouldn't normally be encountered by my audience. I enjoy detailed portraiture and I strive to celebrate the individual by capturing a moment in their life. I also paint Biblical themes and try to remind the viewer that God is present in history and was manifested in everyday people like us today, thus giving modern-day relevancy to historical faith.
